Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and pacer Renuka Singh Thakur have been rested for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Ireland, scheduled to begin on January 10 in Rajkot.

In their absence, Smriti Mandhana will take over as captain, the BCCI announced on Monday.

Harmanpreet, who has been dealing with injuries, suffered a knee injury during the home series against the West Indies last month.

This forced her to miss the last two T20Is before she returned to play three ODIs. The 35-year-old had also sustained a neck injury during the Women's T20 World Cup match against Pakistan in October.

Lead pacer Renuka Singh, the player of the series in the ODIs against the West Indies with 10 wickets in three matches, has been rested as a precautionary measure to manage her workload. Renuka has faced issues with a stress fracture on her back in the past.
