Delhi: Controversy has arisen regarding the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 played between India and Australia. This trophy is named after the great Indian cricket player Sunil Gavaskar and Australian legend Allan Border, but this time Gavaskar was ignored in the presentation of the trophy.

In the closing ceremony of the series held at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Allan Border was called to hand over the trophy, while Sunil Gavaskar was kept away from the occasion. According to reports, Cricket Australia had planned that if Australia wins then Border will give the trophy and if India retains the trophy then Gavaskar will give the trophy.

Sunil Gavaskar expressed his displeasure over this decision and said that he would have been happy if he had attended the presentation. He told Code Sports, “This is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is about both India and Australia. “I was present on the field and would have been happy to present the trophy with my good friend Allan Border.”

Gavaskar further said, *”I do not think that Australia's victory should mean that the opportunity of giving the trophy should be taken away from me. I would have handed over the trophy with pride because he played brilliant cricket.”

It is noteworthy that Gavaskar was present on the field during the entire match and presentation ceremony and Allen was standing at a short distance from the border. Border handed the trophy to Australian captain Pat Cummins. Cricket Australia (CA) has not yet given any statement in this matter, but it is expected that a response will come soon.
