Pakistan's star batsman Babar Azam, who has been struggling with very poor batting form for the last two years, now seems to be returning to form. With the beginning of the new year, runs have started pouring from Babar Azam's bat. Babar on South Africa tour: Babar Azam, who scored a half-century in the ODI series last month, has now started crossing the fifty mark in Test cricket too. In the second Test being played in Cape Town, Babar scored half-centuries twice in a single day and made Pakistani fans happy. However, during this period he also had to face the anger of the bowler once.
The beginning of this Test series being played between South Africa and Pakistan was good for Babar. He scored a half-century in the first innings of the Boxing Day Test match played in Centurion. This was Babar's first half-century in Test in two years. This gave a ray of hope to Pakistani fans that their star batsman is now back in form. Babar proved this right in the second test being played in Cape Town. That too by scoring two half-centuries in a single day.
On the second day of this test match, Babar had scored 31 runs in Pakistan's first innings, after which he came out to take this score forward on the third day. Due to injury of Saim Ayub, Babar had come to open in this innings and the team had lost 3 wickets in front of him, but even after this he remained strong. Then in the first session of the third day, the star batsman completed his half-century. However, he was out soon after his fifty and as soon as he was out, the Pakistani team faltered and collapsed to just 195 runs.
In such a situation, South Africa forced Pakistan to follow-on and Babar came out to open again. This time Babar surprised the entire South Africa by forming a surprising partnership with his captain Shan Masood. The South African bowlers yearned for a wicket and in this frustration, pacer Wiaan Mulder angrily threw a ball back towards Babar. Although Babar was saved due to his pads, after this he had an argument for some time with the bowler and the South African players.
Babar accounted for this with another excellent half-century. In this way he completed fifty for the second time in a single day. This happened after about 23 years, when a batsman from Pakistan scored half-centuries twice in the same day. Earlier in 2002, Hasan Raza had done this while playing follow-on against Australia. Babar seemed to be moving towards his century, for which he has been waiting for two years, but just before the end of the day's play, he was caught out on 81 runs off the ball of Marco Janson.
