Team India has faced defeat in the Test series on Australia tour. Australia won this series 3-1. Team India missed star fast bowler Mohammed Shami in this entire series, who could not play in this series due to not being completely fit. Although Shami is playing in the Vijay Hazare ODI tournament to gain fitness, Sunday was not a good day for him too as he could not avoid the defeat of his team Bengal. The reason for this was Madhya Pradesh captain and star batsman Rajat Patidar, who scored an excellent century.
In this match played in Hyderabad on Sunday 5th January, Bengal batted first and scored 269 runs in 50 overs. Captain Sudeep Kumar Gharami played a strong innings for Bengal but could not complete his century. He was out after scoring 99 runs. Apart from him, Sudipta Chatterjee also played an inning of 47 runs but Mohammed Shami stole the show. Shami, the team's biggest star, performed wonders with the bat before bowling and scored a quick 42 runs (not out) in just 34 balls, which included 5 fours and 1 six. Due to this, Bengal was able to reach 269 runs.
After making his contribution in batting, it was his turn to bowl and here Shami made a great start. The star pacer took the wicket of opener Harsh Gawli on the very first ball of the innings. In the next over, Madhya Pradesh also lost the wicket of the second opener. After this Shubham Sharma and captain Rajat Patidar froze. Together, they made an excellent partnership of 185 runs for the third wicket, which was broken with the wicket of Shubham. Like the Bengal captain, Shubham also missed the century by just 1 run.
But Patidars were not going to become victims of the 'nervous nineties'. The Madhya Pradesh captain completed his fourth century in List A cricket and took the team closer to victory. Ultimately Patidar returned after leading the team to victory. He scored 132 runs in just 138 balls and remained unbeaten. Patidar hit 8 fours and 1 six in his innings. As far as Shami is concerned, even with all his efforts he could not lead his team to victory. His performance with bowling was fine. In his 8 overs he conceded 40 runs and took 1 wicket.
