Delhi: Team India has faced 3-1 defeat in the Test series against Australia. Earlier, India also had to face a 3-0 clean sweep against New Zealand on home soil. After these consecutive defeats, great cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has urged Indian batsmen to play domestic cricket, especially Ranji Trophy.
Gavaskar said while talking to 'Star Sports' on Sunday, “The next round of Ranji Trophy is starting from January 23. I want to see how many players of this team play in it. There should be no excuse for playing domestic cricket.” He also said that if players do not play in Ranji Trophy, then the selection committee should take strict decisions.
Taking the name of Gautam Gambhir, Gavaskar said, “Gambhir should say that players who do not have commitment should not get a place in the Test team. We need such players who are completely dedicated to Indian cricket.”
Gavaskar also said that due to not playing domestic cricket, there have been flaws in the technique of Indian batsmen. Expressing concern over the continuous poor performance against New Zealand and Australia, he said, “I saw technical shortcomings in the batsmen. These flaws were not only visible in this series, but were also clearly visible against New Zealand.”**
Gavaskar said that the Ranji Trophy matches starting from January 23 will be important. He expressed hope that the players who are not included in the T20 series against England will definitely play Ranji Trophy matches.
