Controversy has arisen over the umpire's not out decision given to Virat Kohli in the fifth Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy being played in Sydney. Australian players started celebrating after Virat Kohli was caught in the slip. But the umpire declared it not out. However, Australia's legendary batsman Steve Smith appeared unhappy with this decision. He later said that Virat Kohli was 100 percent out. Smith claimed that Virat's catch was clean. The ball did not touch the ground.
Virat Kohli was caught in the slips while tampering with the ball going outside the off stump of Scott Boland. The ball took the outer edge of the bat and went to Steve Smith. He tried to catch the ball with one hand while diving but he was not in a position to complete the catch so he tossed the ball. After this, Marnus Labuschagne completed the catch by catching the ball. Australian players started celebrating Virat's wicket. But Virat was declared not out.

The TV umpire checked Virat's catch closely and found that the ball had touched the ground. After this he was declared not out. But during the lunch break, English commentator Isa Guha asked Steve Smith, 'Was your hand under that ball?' To this Smith replied, 'It cannot be denied 100 percent. But the decision given by the umpire will have to be accepted.
Even though Virat Kohli got the support of the umpire, despite this, Virat could not take advantage of the life support. After Adelaide, Gabba and Melbourne, Virat also flopped in Sydney. Virat got life on the bowling of Boland and later he was out on the bowling of Boland. In the first innings of the Sydney Test, Virat Kohli scored 17 runs in 69 balls and was caught by debutant Beau Webster.
