As the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 nears, team India will be optimistic about their prospects in the tournament.

It was a fruitless year for India in the ODI format in 2024, who didn't win a solitary 50-over match in last calendar year, albeit playing just three matches.

After the World Cup 2023 heartbreak, Champions Trophy will be crucial as Rohit Sharma and his troops look to bounce back and commence the year with a blockbuster. The way the Indian team has performed in recent times is a concern, but they will be hoping for a solid outing in the Champions Trophy.

As the Indian team looks to gear up for the 50-over tournament, a few players will be eyeing to make an entry to the ODI side. With the England series ahead of it and the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, there are opportunities for both existing and aspiring India players to make their case for the Champions Trophy selection.

Here are three names wh will be aiming for the India selection in the Champions Trophy and can be included in the squad-

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer has been prolific in the last few months for Mumbai. After a decent outing in the Ranji Trophy, Shreyas led Mumbai to win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The former KKR skipper also had an outstanding SMAT with the bat and he has continued that in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. Shreyas' last match for India was earlier in 2024 in a Test against England, and the star batter may finally be reinstated again into the squad.

Varun Chakravarthy

It was a fantastic 2024 for Varun Chakravarthy, who ticked many boxes. Varun was excellent in IPL 2024 for KKR as they won the tournament. Varun's IPL heroics earned him a place in the Indian T20I squad against Bangladesh and then South Africa - and the Tamil Nadu spinner did exceedingly well in both series. As India look to add a finger spinner in their Champions Trophy squad, Varun is likely to be the answer for that. With the matches being played in Dubai, the conditions will be in favour of the India spinner.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

In recent weeks, Yashasvi Jaiswal's case for breaking into the ODI team has gained pace in leaps and bounds. The southpaw has been excellent in Tests and T20I format, and his recent performance against Australia has further bolstered his chances. Jaiswal is currently the highest-scoring Indian in the Border Gavaskar Trophy and is being tipped to be part of the Champions Trophy squad. With Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill's form in the doldrums, the 23-year-old may make his 50-over debut for India in Dubai.
