Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif unveiled his dream Indian squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which the Caribbean Islands and the USA will co-host. Notable omissions from Kaif’s proposed playing XI include promising young talents Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson, and Shubman Gill.
The Indian cricket team’s most recent T20I series took place in January of this year against Afghanistan. The BCCI is closely watching the IPL 2024 season to finalize the team for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The BCCI is anticipated to reveal the World Cup roster by the end of April.
On the Star Sports show ‘Follow the Blues,’ Mohammad Kaif selected Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma as openers, Rishabh Pant as wicketkeeper-batter, and all-rounders Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja to bolster the batting lineup. Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav and fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh will be in the bowling unit.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma will open the batting. Virat Kohli will bat at number 3, followed by Suryakumar Yadav at 4, Hardik Pandya at 5, and Rishabh Pant at 6. I want to strengthen the batting lineup to include all-rounders Axar Patel at seven and Ravindra Jadeja at 8. The chinaman Kuldeep Yadav will bat at 9, with pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh rounding out the XI. This batting order provides depth while balancing specialist bowlers.” claimed Kaif.
Mohammad Kaif chose Yuzvendra Chahal instead of Ravichandran Ashwin as the backup spinner on the team, highlighting Chahal’s prowess and effectiveness as a spinner, especially in spin-friendly conditions like those expected at the T20 World Cup.
The former DC coach stated, ” I must add another spinner. Chahal must be played since he offers a leg-spin option. Ashwin went last time but hasn’t taken many wickets in this IPL. Chahal is very effective in conditions where the ball turns.”
Mohammad Kaif, a former cricketer and commentator, finalized his squad selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup by naming Shivam Dube, Riyan Parag, and Mohammed Siraj. Kaif highlighted Dube’s skill against spin bowling and Parag’s steady performances.
Though Siraj’s recent form is worrying, Kaif noted his valuable experience and impressive record. Kaif also designated Jitesh Sharma, KL Rahul, and Avesh Khan as reserve players to join the squad in Australia. The 43-year-old emphasized the need for a balanced team with a mix of youth and experience for the major tournament.
