LSG will be featuring in their green and maroon jersey, inspired by the Indian football giants, Mohun Bagan SuperGiants, during their upcoming crucial clash against KKR in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Set to be played on April 14 at the Eden Garden in Kolkata, the match will be crucial for LSG who come on the back of a loss against Delhi. The decision to switch to a fresh jersey comes because both sides have the same principal owner in the Indian billionaire businessman- Sanjiv Goenka. This will not be the first time that the KL Rahul-led side featured in the green-maroon jersey, as they wore the same colours back in IPL 2023 against the same opponents. LSG will look to find away support at KKR's home ground in Eden Gardens on Sunday, which will see both sides try to bounce back to winning ways. Having won three games on the trot, LSG suffered a loss against the Rishabh Pant-led DC on April 12, which increases the importance of the upcoming fixture. On the other hand, KKR started off IPL 2024 in scintillating form, only to see their four-game unbeaten streak come to an end with a loss to CSK by 7 wickets on April 8. SANJIV GOENKA CONNECTION Both the IPL side LSG and the Indian Super League (ISL) team Mohun Bagan are owned by the Kolkata-based conglomerate, RP Sanjiv Goenka Group. The RPSG Group, which acquired the Lucknow franchise following the IPL's expansion to 10 teams in 2022, also holds the principal ownership of Mohun Bagan, in which they obtained a majority stake before the ISL 2020-21 season. In 2023, the LSG management declared that this jersey move was aimed to honour the legacy of Mohun Bagan and their rich history in Indian football. WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME? In their previous away fixture at the Eden Gardens during IPL 2023, the Mohun Bagan-esque LSG clinched a thrilling victory over the two-time IPL champions, by a mere 1 run. However, there were mixed responses from the Kolkata crowd regarding LSG's jersey move, which only amps up the speculation around this year's clash between the two sides.
