IND vs AUS: Will Team India return empty handed from Sydney also? Waiting for victory in SCG for 47 years

The Indian cricket team and Indian fans once again faced a heart-breaking defeat. At one time fans hoped that India would win the Melbourne Test. Later a draw situation also arose but Team India ultimately had to face defeat. Now if Indian fans are thinking that Team India will make a splash in the New Year and will definitely win the last Test to be held in Sydney, then just wait because Team India's record in Tests on this ground is very bad. Here India has got only one victory. That too was achieved 47 years ago.

Team India has not won a test in Sydney for 47 years

Before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, fans were hopeful that the Indian team would win the series as it had been doing for the last four times. But after the defeat in Melbourne, India cannot win this series now. Now he can only draw the series but for him victory in Sydney is necessary. If Team India loses here too or the match is drawn, then not only will they lose the series, they will also lose the ticket for the WTC final.

But this is not going to be easy at all. Team India has not lost on this ground since 2012 but it has not won here for a long time. So far, 13 matches have taken place between India and Australia on the historic ground of Sydney. During this period, the host team Australia completely dominated the visiting team India. Australia won 5 out of 13 matches. Whereas India got victory in one match while 7 matches ended in draw. India had drawn 3 consecutive matches on this ground in 2014, 2019 and 2021.

India had won the Sydney ground in 1978

Team India had achieved its only win on the Sydney ground in the year 1978. Bishan Singh Bedi was the captain of India then. In that match, the trio of Bedi, Bhagwat Chandrashekhar and Erapalli Prasanna snatched victory from Australia. The three greats together had taken 16 wickets. India won this match by an innings and 2 runs. Apart from the Indian bowlers, the Indian batsmen also performed tremendously. Australia had scored 131 runs in the first innings. India declared the first innings at 396 runs thanks to Gundappa Vishwanath's 79 runs and Karnas Ghavri's 64 runs. Australia was reduced to 263 runs in the second innings and for the first time Team India won in Sydney.
