Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli. Such a pair of Indian cricket, whose stories have been heard by every Indian cricket fan for the last 30-35 years. In this school cricket, these two batsmen had together caught the attention of the entire country with their brilliant innings and partnerships. Then played many memorable innings for Team India also. Now after many years, Indian cricket again seems to be getting a pair which has a glimpse of Sachin and Kambli. The pair of two young boys have already represented Team India and are winning accolades with their explosive batting. This is Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre.
About 40 years ago, Sachin and Kambli had caught the nation's attention by making an astonishing partnership of more than 600 runs in the Harris Shield, a school cricket competition in Mumbai. Then this was a record. If that was the era of social media and every small and big record was told in detail, then perhaps within a few minutes these two small school cricketers from Mumbai would have become superhit in the entire cricket world. Nevertheless, the fame of this record of both gradually spread outside India with every year and then when both of them came to Team India, everyone knows the story that followed. Even today, stories of that partnership between Sachin and Kambli are told.
Now you will think why Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre are being called the Sachin-Kambli pair of today's time? The question is valid because both the young batsmen do not play for Mumbai or any state association. Vaibhav is playing cricket for Bihar, while Ayush is playing for Mumbai. This is a big difference between the two. Still, there are some similarities, which show a glimpse of the famous couple. Among Sachin-Kambli, one was a right-handed batsman and the other was a left-handed batsman. Similarly, Ayush is a right handed batsman and Vaibhav is a left handed batsman. Both of them bat aggressively and are seen leaving their mark even in their teenage years.
Vaibhav created history by making his debut in List A, First Class and T20 cricket at the age of 13. In the same year, Vaibhav made his debut first in Ranji Trophy, then in Syed Mushtaq Ali and now in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Ayush has also entered all three formats in this season and together they have shown a glimpse of their ability. Coincidentally, on December 31, while 13-year-old Vaibhav made the record of being the youngest List A half-century by scoring 71 runs in just 42 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Ayush also scored 181 runs in the same tournament on the same day at the age of 17. He scored and became the youngest batsman to score more than 150 runs in this tournament.
But both of them are being called a pair like Sachin-Kambli because Vaibhav and Ayush together have destroyed the bowlers. Just a few weeks ago, both the young batsmen showed their mettle in the Under-19 Asia Cup. During this, first he made an unbeaten 143-run partnership against UAE in just 16.1 overs and led the team to victory by 10 wickets. Then in the semi-finals against Sri Lanka, both of them scored 91 runs in just 8.3 overs. India had won this match also. That means both of them like batting with each other.
Now the fans will only hope that these two young stars maintain their partnership even after coming to the senior team of India in the coming years and continue to destroy the bowlers like this. Sachin and Kambli failed to do this in international cricket for a long time, the hope would be that Vaibhav and Ayush go ahead of both the legends in this matter.
