Former India player Harbhajan Singh wanted to beat Prithvi Shaw after he played a reckless shot to throw away his wickets in the IPL 2024 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals. However, Tom Moody, who has previously coached Sunrisers Hyderabad, delivered a strenuous message to Shaw’s critics and cricket experts. He said don’t expect the Delhi opener to score a hundred or a fifty every time he goes out to bat.
According to Moody, Shaw is more suited to play impactful innings, and the right-handed batter will more often amass 30 or 40s at a brisk pace.
Shaw is having a good time in the 17th season for DC, with 151 runs in 4 matches at a strike rate of close to 160.
Prithvi Shaw hit a 22-ball 32 for DC against LSG while chasing 168 in Lucknow. Shaw and Jake Fraser-McGurk, who was on his debut, added 39 in just 21 balls. Shaw was dismissed in the 7th over to Ravi Bishnoi,
“A quickfire 30 or a 40 off 15 or 25 balls is enough for me. Don’t expect him to score a 100 or 50, for that matter,’ Tom Moody told Star Sports.
‘He is one of the best players to impact the game’s outcome. He can put the rivals on the backfoot from the start, and we saw this against Mumbai Indians and now Lucknow. Let him play freely. His game will ultimately benefit the Delhi Capitals. It’s good that he is scoring runs this season,” he added.
Prithvi was out of action for several months due to surgery but returned to competitive cricket with the Ranji Trophy. Delhi will play the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday.
