Many great matches have been played between India and Australia in Melbourne, where sometimes the host team won, while on some occasions Team India also won. Even in this year's Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a tough competition has been seen between the two in Melbourne. Everyone's eyes are on the result of the match. As far as Team India and its fans are concerned, they would like to see a result similar to what happened exactly 4 years ago on the fourth day of the match on the same ground. Team India won the match by defeating Australia with its strong bowling.
Like this time, both the teams had clashed at MCG four years ago also. Before that match of Boxing Day Test 2020, Team India had to face a crushing defeat in the day-night test match played in Adelaide. At that time, the captain of Team India was Virat Kohli and he returned to the country after the Adelaide Test. Besides, star fast bowler Mohammed Shami was also out due to injury. In such a situation, Team India was in trouble before the Melbourne Test.
It was here that Ajinkya Rahane took charge of the team and the story of comeback began, in which 2 new players impressed on their debut and contributed to the victory. These two players were Shubhman Gill and Mohammad Siraj. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin and Siraj together had bowled out Australia for just 195 runs in the first innings. Then captain Ajinkya Rahane scored a brilliant century, while Gill scored 45 runs in the first innings and India scored 326 runs and took a lead of 131 runs.
Then on the third day of the match, the Australian team came out to bat in the second innings and once again the Indian bowlers wreaked havoc. This time the star was Siraj, who took 3 wickets. On the fourth day of the match i.e. on 29th December, Australia's second innings was reduced to just 200 runs and Team India got the total target of 70 runs. The Indian team achieved this target by losing only 2 wickets and leveled the series 1-1. Now even after 4 years, the fans of Team India would like that Team India should make a comeback in Melbourne and take the lead in the series this time by registering a win if not on the fourth day but on the fifth day.
