Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant was involved in a heated argument with the on-field umpire over a DRS call in their IPL 2024 match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday. The incident happened on the 4th over of LSG's innings after Ishant Sharma bowled a ball down the leg side to Devdutt Padikkal. The on-field umpire signalled for a wide but Pant gestured for a review. The replays showed that it was indeed a wide but Pant was left vexed, with the commentators suggesting the DC skipper was insisting that he did not ask for a review. Former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist wasn't too impressed with Pant's antics during his animated chat with the umpire. While suggesting that Pant should be fined for his behaviour, Gilchrist also slammed the umpire for failing to deal with the situation. The former Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) captain felt that the umpire should be given more authority to deal with the players. "I saw another example tonight where umpires need to take better control of games, and that is in any format. They just got to do a better job at moving things forward. There was a dispute over whether Rishabh had reviewed it. Okay, there was a miscommunication over the review call. But they stood there and spoke about that for 3-4 minutes. It's a very simple conversation, I believe. No matter how much Rishabh is complaining or any other player is complaining, umpires should just say, 'it's over' and quickly move on. But if he keeps talking, he should get fined," Gilchrist said on Cricbuzz. Coming back to the match, Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk smashed a half-century on his IPL debut as DC defeated LSG by 6 wickets. Fraser-McGurk and Pant (41) shared 77 runs for the third wicket to put DC in control of the 168-run chase. The 22-year-old smashed five sixes and two fours before falling to Arshad Khan on 55. This was just DC's second win of the season and it took them out of the bottom of the 10-team points table.
