Ishan Kishan has fallen out of favour since he refused to play for Jharkhand in Ranji Trophy. He was not offered a central contract by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He had a difficult start to IPL 2024 but the southpaw has managed to play two back-to-back? match-winning knocks against Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He is not giving up on a chance to represent India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Former Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody had a chance to sign Ishan Kishan for over INar 15 crore in IPL 2022 but he let it go.

“I did not have the paddle in my hand,” he said on ESPNcricinfo.

Before the mega auction, Mumbai Indians released Kishan. During the auction, they re-acquired him for ₹15.25 crore after intense bidding with Sunrisers Hyderabad, who pursued Kishan aggressively but dropped out of the race once his price exceeded ₹15 crore.

With 161 runs in five games, including a half-century, Kishan is currently MI’s top run scorer in the 17th season. He hammered 69 runs off 34 balls against RCB, including five sixes and seven fours, as MI easily chased down 197 runs in 15.3 overs.

A strong IPL 2024 campaign could earn Kishan playing for India in the global tournament in the West Indies and USA. Sitting seventh with four points from five matches (two wins, three losses), Mumbai Indians will next face defending champions Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.
