Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman has issued a clarification on his controversial tweet supporting Babar Azam, which led to his removal from the central contract and the team. There were reports that Babar would be dropped for the second Test against England. Fakhar came out in support of his teammate and questioned the likely move. The southpaw also compared the lows of Babar and Virat Kohli.

The Pakistan Cricket Board didn’t like what Zaman wrote and after the Test series against England, dropped Fakhar from the list of centrally contracted players.

The batter said that his tweet was before Babar got dropped, and he was only expressing his opinion. Zaman thinks that he should have stayed away from the matter.

“I shouldn’t not have tweeted but my statement was taken in a wrong manner. They thought that I had turned against the board but this is 100 percent wrong. The tweet was posted before the board took the decision to drop Babar. I saw that media and former players were slamming Babar despite his massive contribution to Pakistan cricket,” he said.

“I saw that and tweeted. I have understood that no one is bigger than the board. I will tell the junior cricketers that no matter how big they become in the future, they shouldn’t critisize the board during their playing days,” he added.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi was miffed with the batter and revealed that the tweet was one of the reasons behind the punishment given to Fakhar.

“Tweet was one issue, but even his fitness was not up to the mark. You can’t comment on the selection committee whenever you want,” Mohsin Naqvi said. Zaman was previously given Category B in the central contracts.
