The young batter has all the shots in his batting arsenal and can dominate any bowling attack in the world, but he goes for too many shots, which often leads to his dismissals. The same happened in the IPL 2024 match between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants.
He was looking good, having scored 32 runs off 22 balls, but went for a reckless host against Ravi Bishnoi and was caught by Nicholas Pooran. He hit six fours, and his runs came at a strike rate of 145.45.
Former India player Harbhajan Singh was so miffed with Shaw that he threatened to beat him. “What was he doing there? If I were at Delhi Capitals, I would have beaten him continuously. There was no need for that shot, and he put Delhi in trouble. When you are batting well, you should make it count, but Prithvi has this habit of going for reckless shots. This should have been avoided,” Harbhajan Singh said on Star Sports.
It didn’t prove costly for the Capitals as debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk struck a magnificent 55 runs off 35 deliveries and shared a 70+ partnership with captain Rishabh Pant to take the team over the line, chasing 168. Pant amassed 41 runs off 24 balls. Delhi’s 6-wicket win was their second in the 17th season of the tournament.
Kuldeep Yadav was named the Player of the Match for taking three wickets from his quota of four overs.
