Delhi Capitals finally managed to win a game after a long time in the Indian Premier League 2024. They defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 6 wickets to seal their second win of the 17th season. Kuldeep Yadav picked up three wickets, dismissing Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran, and KL Rahul. Chasing 168, Delhi lost David Warner early in the innings. He scored 8 runs off 9 balls.

Prithvi Shaw (32 off 22), Jake Fraser-McGurk (55 off 35), and Rishabh Pant (41 off 34 balls) didn’t crumble under pressure and won the game for their side. The form of Warner is a cause of concern. Even if he is scoring runs, the strike rate is not up to the mark. Former India player Harbhajan Singh said that the management should rest the legendary batter and play someone who can win matches.

“I respect David Warner a lot, but he has been off-colour for the last two or three years. The runs are coming at a low strike rate, and the number of failures is increasing. He is no more of an aggressive batter, and this is what we saw when he played for Australia in recent times.

“Don’t say that we are dropping you? Tell him you are being rested for a few games. There is no point in playing him in the remaining games. I think Delhi should go with a player, who is their future.

“They will have to back new players and not someone like Warner,” Harbhajan Singh said on Star Sports.

In 182 IPL matches, he has accumulated 6563 runs at an average of 41.02 and a strike-rate of 139.88. The southpaw has hit four hundreds and 62 fifties.
