The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be played in June. The Indian selectors are monitoring the players’ performance in the Indian Premier League 2024. While some of the names are almost confirmed, there is still a lot of brainstorming required on the middle order and some important slots.
Former New Zealand player Simon Doull said that India should open up with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to allow them to play freely in powerplay overs against big teams.
“Virat Kohli should open the innings. In my team, Rinku Singh is there, but if Kohli plays at the No. 3 slot, the star finisher will miss out. Virat can be clubbed with Rohit as it is the best batting position for him. He is a great timer of the ball and can hit boundaries upfront. Coming in and playing against the spinners is not the best option for Virat,” he said on Cricbuzz.
Doull further said that he doesn’t see Jaiswal getting a place in the Playing XI. He thinks Sanju Samson should bat at the No. 3 batting position, followed by Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, and Ravindra Jadeja.
“I know it looks like a stupid prediction, but I don’t think Jaiswal can make it to the Playing XI. Samson should bat at No 3, Suryakumar at No 4, Dube and Rinku at 5 and 6, Jadeja at 7,” he added.
Doull’s team didn’t have the likes of Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill. He believes that other players may find a place in the squad, but Rinku Singh needs to be persisted with, as he has done well in the past year.
