R Ashwin Retirement: Ravichandran Ashwin announced retirement from international cricket on December 18 (Wednesday). The 38-year-old spinner's announcement came after the end of the India vs Australia 3rd Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Ashwin, alongside skipper Rohit Sharma, attended the press conference to announce the decision publicly.

A key figure in Indian cricket, Ashwin has featured in 106 Tests, 116 ODIs, and 65 T20Is, amassing 3,503 runs and claiming 537 wickets in Test cricket.

Ashwin is expected to continue playing the T20 tournaments and represent Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025.

R Ashwin Will Continue To Play Club-Level Cricket

Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket, stating this was his final day as an Indian cricketer across all formats. While he feels he still has some cricket left in him, he plans to continue playing at the club level.

"This will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level. I do feel there's a bit of a punch left in me as a cricketer but I would like to showcase that in club-level cricket. I had a lot of fun. I must say I have created a lot of memories alongside Rohit and several of my other teammates, even though I have lost some of them over the last few years. We are the last bunch of OGs left out in the dressing room and I would be marking this as my date of having played at this level," Ashwin said during the post-match presentation.

Ashwin expressed gratitude to the BCCI, teammates, and coaches for their support throughout his career. He specifically thanked Rohit, Virat, Ajinkya and Pujara for their crucial catches that contributed to his wickets.

"There are a lot of people to thank but I will be failing in my duties if I didn't thank the BCCI and fellow teammates. I want to name a few of them. All the coaches who have been a part of the journey. Most importantly, Rohit, Virat, Ajinkya and Pujara who have taken those splendid catches around the back to give me the number of wickets that I have managed to get over the years. Also, a big thank you to the Australian cricket team who have been very fierce competitors. I have enjoyed my time playing against them," Ashwin added.
