Ishan Kishan was in the news for all the wrong reasons before the Indian Premier League 2024. He refused to play for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy, and then BCCI didn’t offer him a central contract as a punishment.
Since then, he has returned to play for Mumbai Indians and has contributed to the franchise’s two wins. The five-time champions were winless in the first three games but won the next two.
After the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he was asked about the time away from cricket. “I was practising. I know a lot was said and written on social media. However, the people need to realize that everything is not in the hands of the players.
“You should know how to utilize your time properly. In the earlier days, I went after every ball, but now the 20-over game looks like a big game to me. Even though we lost three games at the start, we always worked as a team. If I am performing and the other player is failing, I go and speak to him to make him feel comfortable. So these things helped me in the break, ” he said.
He scored 69 runs off 34 balls, packed with seven fours and five sixes, as MI chased down a target of 197 runs in 15.3 overs with seven wickets in hand.
Kishan is Mumbai’s highest run-scorer, with 161 runs in five matches, including a fifty.
