Rohit Sharma is not thinking about taking retirement from international cricket. The veteran player wants to play for a few more years as his aim is to win the World Cup with Team India. He made this revelation during his conversation with Gaurav Kapoor and singer Ed Sheeran on the latest episode of Breakfast with Champions. Rohit came close to winning the ICC World Cup 2023, but the Men in Blue lost to Australia in the final. He scored 597 runs as an opener for the sub-continent team in that tournament. Ed Sheeran asked him about his retirement plans, to which Rohit said he hadn’t thought of it yet.
“I haven’t thought about it, as life can take you anywhere. I am playing well at the moment, and my aim is to win a World Cup trophy for India. There is a World Test Championship final in 2025, and I hope India qualify for it for the third time in a row,” he said.
Rohit also spoke about the team’s defeat against Australia in the mega-final.
“I don’t think we did anything wrong. We won 10 games in tow, including the semi-final. The players were performing, and we ticked all the boxes. I am not going to be critical of the players, as they gave it all. I feel we were bound to have one bad day in the tournament, and it came in the final. We didn’t play bad cricket against Australia. They were a bit better than us. They had a good day in the final,” he added.
Rohit is currently playing for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2024. He has been aggressive from the start and managed important runs for the side. Although Mumbai started the 17th season with three straight defeats, they bounced back in the next two by defeating Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
