Despite his growing age, Dinesh Karthik continues to play sensational innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League. He struck 53 runs off 23 balls, packed with five fours and four sixes against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2024. His blistering effort took the team’s total to 196.
Even in the only win against Punjab Kings, he was impressive with the bat. Former New Zealand player Simon Doull and renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle said DK is the best Indian finisher in the tournament if the current form is considered.
“Dinesh Karthik is at the top. There are Rinku Singh, Ashutosh Sharma, Shashank Singh, Rinku Singh, and Shivam Dube, but Dinesh is ahead of them as he consistently produces such knocks. He is the best fighter, and his innings put the MI bowler under pressure,” Simon Doull said on Cricbuzz.
Harsha Bhogle spoke about the hard work DK puts in to play in IPL.
“I traveled a lot with him in the Test series against England. He always carried a kitbag to keep practicing. He had a kitbag in Mumbai and Chennai. Wherever we went, he rented ground and bowlers to practice to be match-ready for RCB. He puts his body under a lot of stress to play cricket at the highest level,” Harsha Bhogle said.
In six matches, he has slammed 143 runs at an average of 71.59 and a strike rate of 190.66. He has hit 11 fours and 11 sizes.
