Mumbai Indians Appoints Carl Hopkinson as Fielding Coach

The Five times Champions Mumbai Indians has appointed Englishman Carl Hopkinson as fielding coach taking over the New Zealander James Pamment, who was in the role for seven years.

The 43-year-old Hopkinson was England men’s fielding coach joining the set-up in 2018 and was involved in each of England’s most recent victories at ICC global events, the 50 over World Cup in 2019, and the T20 World Cup in Australia in November 2022.

He parted his ways with England last month, ahead of Brendon McCullum taking charge as team’s all-format coach.

He also had worked with England’s U-19 squad, before his coaching career.

“We would like to thank James Pamment for his invaluable contributions over the years. You will always be welcomed with the same love at Wankhede, Commander!” expressed the franchise heartfelt gratitude to Pamment.

He was the batter who played 64 FC games, 92 List A games and 28 T20s, mostly for English County Sussex.

Mumbai Indians has made a some changes in their coaching staff with reappointing Mahela Jayawardene as MI head coach for the 2025 season after parting ways with Mark Boucher.

MI also appointed Paras Mhambrey as their bowling coach who will work alongside with Lasith Malinga.

Mumbai Indians finished as 10th in the IPL 2024 season will be looking to bounce back and challenge for the title. At the IPL mega auction in November, MI made some notable buys to build a strong squad.

Meanwhile MI Cape town has also announced changes in their coaching starr for the new season. Mitchell McClenaghan who worked as the bowling coach for MI Emirates, will transition to MI Cape Town, while Kruger van, a former Proteas cricketer with over 80 T20 appearances, joins as the fielding coach.
