Bengal lost to Baroda by 41 runs in the quarter final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Mohammed Shami conceded 43 runs from his four overs and picked up two wickets in the match.
Despite his team’s defeat in the domestic T20 tournament, Shami scripted a record. He completed 200 wickets in the shortest format and became the 34th cricketer to script a rare treble. He has taken 200 scalps each in first-class cricket, List A cricket and T20 format.
Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are the first two Indian seamers on the list. Shami is waiting for a fitness certificate from the medical team of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to stand a chance to play in atleast two Test matches against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
He last played for India in the ICC 2023 ODI World Cup final and underwent an ankle surgery earlier this year. After a long rehabilitation, he played a Ranji Trophy match for Bengal.
Rohit Sharma recently revealed that Shami was down with a swollen knee and the BCCI is monitoring his progress.
“He hasn’t played international cricket for a long time and we don’t want to put pressure on him as there is a possibility of him breaking down in Australia. The medical professionals are monitoring his condition and they are the ones who will take a final call,” Rohit Sharma said after India’s defeat in the second Test.
