SMAT 2024 Quarterfinals Results: The quarterfinals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 witnessed thrilling encounters with Baroda overcoming Bengal and Madhya Pradesh (MP) defeating Saurashtra to book their places in the semifinals.
With Mumbai already also advancing on the day, the action-packed contest continued with both Baroda and MP securing hard-fought victories.
Baroda Beat Bengal by 41 Runs
Baroda posted a competitive total of 172/7 in their allotted 20 overs, propelled by a late surge from Shivalik Sharma and Bhanu Pania. Sharma's back-to-back sixes off Shami and Pania's consecutive maximums in the final overs helped Baroda reach a challenging total. Despite a strong start from Bengal's openers, with Abishek Porel and Karan Lal contributing well in the early stages, Bengal fell short in their chase.
Bengal's top order struggled as Lukman Meriwala claimed three quick wickets in his over, leaving them at a precarious 31/3. Although Shahbaz Ahmed fought back with a fighting 55 off 36 balls, Baroda's bowlers, led by Atit Sheth, restricted Bengal to 131 all out in just 18 overs, securing a 41-run victory for Baroda.
Madhya Pradesh Defeat Saurashtra by 6 Wickets
Madhya Pradesh (MP) continued their impressive run in the tournament, chasing down a target of 171 set by Saurashtra. After Saurashtra posted 170/6 in 20 overs, MP chased it with relative ease, thanks to a composed performance from their middle order. Venkatesh Iyer anchored the chase, remaining unbeaten on 38 off 33 balls, while Harpreet Bhatia sealed the win with a quickfire 22 off 9 balls.
MP's chase was built on steady partnerships, and despite losing key wickets, including a crucial knock from Shubham Sharma, Bhatia's explosive end ensured MP reached the target comfortably with six wickets in hand. Their victory was a testament to their balanced batting attack and composed finishing skills.
Mumbai Beat Vidarbha by 6 Wickets
In another knockout clash, Mumbai advanced to the semifinals with a 6-wicket win over Vidarbha. Vidarbha posted a challenging total of 221/6, thanks to a blistering 42 off 19 balls by Shubham Dubey and a solid contribution from Atharva Taide, who made 66 off 41 balls. Despite some resistance from Vidarbha's middle order, Mumbai's bowlers kept the scoring under control, especially in the death overs.
Mumbai's chase, led by Ajinkya Rahane's 85, saw them reach the target with four balls to spare. Rahane's quick-fire half-century set the tone, and though they lost wickets in the middle overs, Shivam Dube and Suryansh Shedge finished the game with ease, securing Mumbai's place in the semifinals.
