Mumbai: Things have gone from bad to worse for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru side. RCB were upbeat before the tournament started as the eves had won the Women’s Premier League and the hope was that the RCB could double that this year. The team played the tournament opener against defending champions Chennai Super Kings and lost. Things have not gone RCB’s way this IPL season as they lost their fifth match yesterday and now a spot in the playoff looks difficult. RCB have played six matches, winning merely one. Currently, the RCB side are languishing at the bottom of the points table.
Without a doubt, RCB can still make the playoffs, but things have surely gotten trickier for them after the loss against MI. RCB cannot afford to lose many more matches as the magic figure to qualify for the playoffs is usually eight – which means 16 points. For RCB to reach a total of 16, they still need to win seven matches out of eight. This looks very difficult.
Meanwhile, Kohli’s form is the only silver lining for the RCB side. With 319 runs in six matches, Kohli is the leading run-getter and the Orange Cap holder.
“It’s a tough pill to swallow – combination of two things, very wet (the conditions with dew), I need to somehow win some tosses, secondly, they played really well, put the pressure on us and we made a lot of mistakes (especially during the powerplay). We knew dew would be a factor, we might have needed to make 250+, but they made 196 look very less. You know when there’s dew coming, you’ll have to bat big, the ball was very wet, it was changed a few times and the bowlers struggled,” RCB captain faf du Plessis said at the post-match presentation after the loss.
