IND vs AUS: All tickets sold out for Day 1 of Boxing Day match in Melbourne

Attendance record are set to continue in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 in the third match of the series. The Melbourne Cricket Ground is set to hold the fourth Test match of the series and the stadium is expected to be packed throughout as all tickets have been sold out for Day 1.

Cricket Australia announced the development on Tuesday, December 10, 4 days ahead of the Test match, stating that all tickets were sold out and that they would release some additional tickets for Day 1 of the game. The MCG has a capacity of 90,000 and the stadium is expected to be packed for all days of the Test.

The second Test match in Adelaide saw record crowd as well during the pink ball Test match, with 135,012 attendees watching the match on two and a half days. This surpassed the previous five-day record of 113,009 for a Test against India in 2014-15.

The attendance record is expected to keep growing as the teams will play the Boxing Day Test match after the Brisbane Test. Boxing Day Test is one of the most special events in cricketing calendar. The match is set to start on December 26, a day after Christmas and continue till 30 December after which the teams will go on their New Year break.

According to reports from the local media, this will be the first time that a non-Ashes Boxing Day Test will witness a crowd of over 86,000 spectators, setting a record-breaking turnout.

The opening two days of the first Test at Optus Stadium also broke records for attendance at any Test match in the city, at 31,302 (Day 1) and 32,368 (Day 2), respectively.

The match, which lasted four days, saw 96,463 people go through the gates, the second-highest total attendance ever recorded in Perth and the highest at Perth Stadium, CA stated in a press release.
