In a memorable encounter at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a much-needed win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 7 wickets. Mumbai produced stunning performance, especially with the bat as they completed the chase of 197 in just 15.3 overs.
Electing to bowl first, MI bowlers led by jasprit bumrah (5/21) restricted RCB to a total of 196/8. Faf du Plessis (61 off 40) led the charge for RCB with a well-paced fifty, including three sixes. Dinesh Karthik (53 off 23) provided a late flourish with a quickfire knock studded with four sixes. However, the rest of the RCB batting order failed to capitalize, with several batsmen falling cheaply.
For Mumbai, Bumrah was their star performer with the ball. The right-arm pacer bagged a brilliant five-wicket haul, marking his second overall in the history of the cash-rich league. Bumrah’s wickets included the prized scalps of RCB skipper Du Plessis and superstar Virat Kohli.
MI’s chase got off to a flying start with a blistering opening partnership between Ishan Kishan (69 off 34) and Rohit Sharma (38 off 24). Kishan, in particular, was in devastating touch, smashing seven fours and five sixes. Suryakumar Yadav (52 off 19) continued the momentum with a quickfire half-century, peppered with five fours and four sixes. MI chased down the target with 4.3 overs to spare, losing only three wickets.
