New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah became the first bowler in the Indian Premier League history to take a five-wicket haul against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and also the fourth overall to take two fifers in the tournament. On a day when most of the Mumbai Indians bowlers went for runs, the India pacer dismissed Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Mahipal Lomror, Saurav Chauhan and Vijaykumar Vyshak to bring up his second IPL five-wicket haul in the tournament.
James Faulkner, Jaydev Unadkat and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are the other bowlers to have taken two five-wicket hauls in IPL. Before Bumrah’s fifer, the previous best by any bowler against RCB was Ashish Nehra’s 4/10 for CSK in Bengaluru in 2015. With this five-wicket haul, Bumrah also shot to the top of te list for most wickets and grabbed the Purple Cap from Yuzvendra Chahal.
He also surpassed Sandeep Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja for most wicket against RCB in IPL. Bumrah now has 29 scalps against RCB while both Jadeja and Sharma have 26 each. Earlier, Bumrah dismissing Kohli was the fifth time the pacer got better of the former India captain in IPL.
