After countries like India, Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, England, now T20 league fever has spread in Nepal also. Nepal, which is attracting the attention of the world with its craze for cricket, has now started making headlines with its new league as well. The league is constantly being talked about because of famous former cricketers like Indian legend Shikhar Dhawan and New Zealand star Martin Guptill. But now a shocking performance on the field surprised everyone. In the fifth match of the tournament, the condition of the top order of a team was so bad that the first 7 batsmen could score only 7 runs in total. Obviously the team had to face a crushing defeat.
Chitwan Rhinos and Pokhara Avengers were face to face in the 5th match of Nepal Premier League played on Tuesday 3 December in Kirtipur. In both the teams, mostly players were from Nepal, while there were some well-known international players also. However, the contest still remained one-sided. Rhinos batted first in this match and scored a strong score of 161 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. From his side, former England all-rounder Ravi Bopara scored the maximum 52 runs. Nepal's young batsman and team captain Kushal Malla scored a quick 38 runs in 23 balls.
Now Pokhara Avengers had a target of 162 runs to win and it was expected that this team would also make the match exciting with strong batting but what happened surprised everyone. The team lost its 3 wickets in the very first over, including team captain Kushal Bhurtel. He was out on the very first ball. Tall former Pakistani fast bowler Sohail Tanvir did this to Pokhara. He gave a strong start to the team by taking all three wickets. After this it was the turn of Nepali bowler Rijan Dhikaal. He also took 3 wickets in a single over and in just 4 overs the team lost 6 wickets, while the score was only 7 runs.
It did not take much time for the seventh wicket to fall and in the 7th over, West Indies batsman Ramon Reifer also walked out. In this way, Pokhara had lost the wickets of its first 7 batsmen till the score of only 17 runs. The scores of these 7 batsmen were like this - 0, 1, 4, 0, 1, 1, 0. That means these 7 batsmen together scored only 7 runs. In the lower order, Marcus Critchley scored 17 runs and Narayan Joshi scored 30 runs, which saved the team from even more embarrassment. Yet the entire team collapsed for just 74 runs in 13.2 overs and lost by 87 runs. Sohail Tanveer took 3 wickets for 6 runs in 3 overs and Dhikal took 3 wickets for 10 runs in 3 overs. Luke Bekenstein also took 3 wickets.
