Young India opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the verge of breaking legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar's record for most runs in a calendar year by an India batter.
Notably, Jaiswal has been in sensational form in the ongoing year having scored 1280 runs from 12 matches (23 innings) at an average of 58.18 with three hundreds and 7 fifties to his name.
The southpaw is 282 runs behind Tendulkar's tally of 1562 runs which he achieved in 2010 to register most runs by an India batter in a calendar year .and hence given his current form he could well be seen at the top of the list by the end of the year.
Jaiswal got off to a terrific start in the five-match Test series against Australia as he scored a brilliant 161 (297) in the second innings after being dismissed for a duck in the first innings. The 22-year-old batted in an uncharacteristic fashion as he was watchful early on in his innings and avoided poking at deliveries outside the off stump while facing the new ball.

However, once set, Jaiswal put his wide array of strokes on display smashing 15 fours and three sixes in his sublime knock as he added 201 runs for the first wicket with KL Rahul. Jaiswal has been making giant strides in international cricket ever since his debut in July 2023 and has scored 1568 runs from 15 matches (28 innings) at an average of 58.07 with four hundreds and eight fifties.
Earlier this year, he became just the seventh player in the history of the game to score consecutive double hundreds in Test cricket .He was also the third Indian to achieve the feat after Vinod Kambli (1993) and Virat Kohli (2017). The youngster will be eager to continue his form in the remaining matches of the series and help India secure the third consecutive series win in Australia.
