After releasing Shreyas Iyer ahead of the auction, the defending champions are on the verge of searching new captain for the 18th edition of the season.

Rahanae who joined the squad during the IPL 2025 auction for a base price of INR 1.5 crore is the top contender for leading the squad in the lucrative T20 league.

With the speculations on KKR’s richest buy Venkatesh Iyer set to become the next skipper, the reports of Rahane becoming the new captain have gained the interest of the cricketing community.

KKR were tipped to Venkatesh Iyer the captaincy who was bought for INR 23.75 crore and Rinku Singh is also in the contention for the leadership role.

Ajinkya Rahane, the red ball captain of Mumbai, has been replaced by Shreyas Iyer before the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as the Mumbai Cricket  Association (MCA) preferred to go with a young skipper planning for a long term.

Rahane was released by CSK ahead of the IPL 2025 season who spent a couple of seasons with yellow army. During the game agianst Kerala in SMAT 2024, Rahane scored 68 runs off 35 deliveries which included five fours and four sixes while opening.

Rahane has proved to be one of the best opening options for KKR after the side let off of Phil Salt who joined RCB ahead of IPL 2025.

Rahane has captained national team several times including a memorable test series win against Australia in 2020-21 season while Virat Kohli was unavailable.

Despite not playing for Indian team, Rahane has been regarded as country’s one of the best captains.
