Mashimbi said on her appointment, “It is a matter of pride for me to be appointed as the head coach of the Proteas women's team. I understand the responsibilities and expectations associated with this position. I am grateful to Titans Cricket, which has played a vital role in my professional development over the last 11 years. My aim is to ensure the continued success of the team and make them a strong force in world cricket.”

Mashimbi's cricket career

Mashimbi played professional cricket for the Titans, Knights, and Griquas.

He was a fast bowler and had to end his cricket career early due to a knee injury in 2010. He took 103 wickets in 39 first-class matches for Titans and Northerns and his batting average was also more than 20.

CSA praised Mashimbi. The board believes that Mashimbi will promote a winning culture in the team. Currently the Proteas women's team is playing a series against England.
