Team India delivered a commanding performance in the first Test against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth, securing a resounding 295-run victory. The match witnessed exceptional individual contributions from Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli, highlighting India’s dominance in both bowling and batting departments.
The Test began with bowlers ruling the roost. India’s first innings was cut short at 150 runs, with debutant Nitish Reddy top-scoring with 41. Josh Hazlewood was lethal with the ball, claiming 4/29 and receiving strong support from Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon.
Australia fared no better in their first innings, folding for just 104 runs. Bumrah was the star of the show, claiming a sensational 5/30, while Harshit Rana’s 3/48 further dented the Australian lineup. Starc’s 26 was the only notable resistance from the hosts.
India turned the tide in their second innings with a marathon batting effort. Young opener Jaiswal anchored the innings with a sublime 161 off 297 balls, showcasing impeccable patience and stroke play. KL Rahul (77) laid a solid foundation alongside Jaiswal before Kohli added the finishing touch with an unbeaten 100 off 143 deliveries. India declared their innings at 487/6, setting Australia a mammoth target of 534 runs.
Australia’s second innings started with intent but crumbled under the relentless pressure of India’s bowlers. Travis Head put up a valiant fight with a counter-attacking 89, but the lack of partnerships hindered the hosts’ chase.
Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj claimed three wickets apiece, while Rana also chipped in with crucial breakthroughs. Australia were bowled out for 238, handing India a thumping victory.

It wasn't meant to be like this for Australia. But as India learnt recently, the best laid plans can go awry. Australia have many questions to answer before Adelaide, especially with the batting. But that…..is another day.

Australia has a long tradition of going after the head of the snake i.e. the captain of the opposition. This time, the head of the snake went after them, and they didn't know where to hide. #AUSvIND pic.twitter.com/7VGJQLIqjP

Jasprit Bumrah walks off with a stump after posting his first Test win as captain. He could have taken the ball, the pitch & the Perth Stadium with him if he wanted. A special performance by the future long-term Test captain #AusvInd pic.twitter.com/92vaI14lgI
