Former England captain Nasser Hussain has said that Australia forgot about Jasprit Bumrah while taking on India in the series opener in Perth. Hussain mentioned that all the attention was given to Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Steve Smith, and the speedster slipped under the radar.
Bumrah took 8 wickets in the game and played a decisive role in India’s 295-run win and a 1-0 series lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Speaking to SKY Sports, the 56-year-old said that Bumrah’s bowling has many variations, but more focus is on the batters in this series.
“He has a slower delivery and bowl yorkers and bouncers. He was doing a press conference before the first Test, and I could see that Australia’s interest was in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Even Steve Smith was getting a lot of coverage. They don’t really talk about Bumrah because he is a bowler. Batters are highlighted more,” he said.
Rohit missed the match due to the birth of his second child. He has reached Australia and will lead the team in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide. On the other hand, Virat scored a hundred in the second innings in Perth. The visitors gave the Aussies a target of 534 and dismissed them for 238.
