Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain are mighty impressed with Jasprit Bumrah after the Indian speedster led his team to a memorable win in the Perth Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Bumrah took five wickets in the first innings and then followed it up with three scalps in the second easy and was named the Player of the Match.
The pacer was superb as a captain as the visitors won the contest by 295 runs. Speaking on the Sky Sports Cricket podcast, Atherton expressed happiness that he didn’t face the Indian seamer during his career.
“Bumrah was mangificent and those two spells with the new balls were teriffic. There are bowlers whom you don’t think about after taking retirement but there are few who force you to say thank to the god for not facing them with the new ball. I mean, how would you bat against him?”
“Jasprit Bumrah is a nightmare. He unleashes thunderbolts and steals a yard from a batter because he releases the ball in front of himself more than any other bowler. What a nightmare for the batters,” he added.
Hussain said that he would sweat before facing Bumrah. “I would have been afraid to face him. Shall I go forward, or shall I stand in the crease? That would have been my thought if I had to face him. He has a slow ball, yorker, and the bouncer in his bowling arsenal,” Nasser Hussain said.
The second Test between Australia and India will be played on December 6.
