Shubman Gill, who suffered a finger injury during an intra-squad match ahead of the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Perth, which India National Cricket Team won by 295 runs on Monday, is doubtful for the pink-ball Test in Adelaide.

Gill will sit out of the two-day practice match against the Prime Minister’s XI at Canberra, which will start from November 30. The day-night Test will be played from December 6.

“Gill was told to take a 10-14 day rest by a medical specialist after his finger injury.

He will not be a part of the Playing XI in the practice and is doubtful for the second Test of the series. We will have to wait and see the speed of his recovery. Even if Gill is declared fit, he will need practice before playing a contest,” a source told TOI.

Former Mumbai and India selector Jatin Paranjape had said that Gill could miss two to three matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. “You need two to four weeks to recover from finger injuries. Gill could miss two to three red-ball matches,” Paranjape had said.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has no plans to send Mohammed Shami to Australia.

He recently returned to action for Bengal. After playing for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, the speedster is currently participating in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

“There are no plans to send Shami to Australia. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana performed well in the first match of the five-Test series.” a source in the Board said.

Shami took seven wickets in a Ranji Trophy contest against Madhya Pradesh.
