India have started the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on a winning note. The visitors registered a 295-run victory over Australia in the opening match of the five-Test series. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 161 runs, while Jasprit Bumrah took eight wickets.
The most welcoming news for the India National Cricket Team was Virat Kohli’s hundred after almost a year. In the previous Test series against New Zealand, he managed just 93 runs in six innings, and when he amassed just five runs in the first innings of the Perth Test, another ordinary assignment was predicted.
Virat came to the crease after the dismissal of Devdutt Padikkal and looked confident from the start. He left wide deliveries and played shots on the balls that were pitched close to his body. Kohli grew in confidence and didn’t look back, scoring an unbeaten 100 runs off 143 balls, laced with 8 fours and 2 sixes.
Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara, who has played a lot of Test matches with Virat, was happy after his teammate broke the century drought.
“Virat’s knock was special, and he was in complete control. He made some adjustments to his batting style after the first innings failure. Kohli spent time at the crease, and that helped him. He becomes unstoppable the moment he reaches 40 runs in his innings. He can register big scores after that. He showed this once again as he went for his shots after settling down,” Cheteshwar Pujara said.
