Former Pakistan batter Wasim Akram was a nightmare for star batters during his heydays. His spell to England batters in the final of the 1992 World Cup is still fresh in the fans’ memories. The legendary bowler was recently urged to reveal the name of his favorite batter.

Although he mentioned Sunil Gavaskar, the Chappell brothers, Allan Border, Sachin Tendulkar, and Brian Lara, his vote went to Vivian Richards, who is considered the greatest by many.

“Allan Border, Chappell brothers, and Sunil Gavaskar were phenomenal when I started playing cricket. Then came Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara. Now we have Virat Kohli. But my favorite is Vivian Richards.

“He was dominating, and his walk to the middle, swag, and strokes had class written all over it. He played without a helmet and dealt in fours and sixes. Viv didn’t have a problem on different kinds of surfaces and was impressive against all rivals,” Wasim Akram said on Star Sports.

Akram was one of the commentators during the first Test between India and Australia of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He hailed the Jasprit Bumrah-led team for their impressive performance in the game. For the record, India defeated Australia by 295 runs to go 1-0 up in the five-match Test series.
