Virat Kohli is currently playing in the first Test against Australia in Perth. He scored just five runs, which extended his below-par performances in the longest format. Kohli has scored just three Test hundreds in the last five years. However, he still boasts an impressive record in red-ball cricket.
Former India player Deep Dasgupta recalled Virat’s sensational batting in Australia and England. In the 2014-15 Border Gavaskar Trophy, Kohli was the second-highest run-scorer, with 690 runs in 8 innings at an average of 86.50. He smashed four hundreds for the visiting team, but Australia registered a 2-0 win.
“Virat Kohli was unstoppable against Australia and this is when the world took a note of his talent. He fought brilliantly for the Indian team and was not pressurized by intimidating tactics of Australia,” Deep Dasgupta said on Star Sports.
Kohli had another frontier to conquer in the form of England. In the 2018 tour of the English team, he amassed 593 runs at an average of 59.30 in 10 innings. There was a big difference between him and the second-highest run-scorer, Jos Buttler. He managed 349 runs at an average of 38.77 in 9 innings.
“India lost the series 1-4 but Virat Kohli was outstanding. He scored almost 600 runs and I don’t think any visiting player has batted better than Virat Kohli in England. He was magnificent with the bat,” he added.
