Gautam Gambhir continues to be a part of headlines ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. His statement on Ricky Ponting has ignited a debate, with former players taking a dig at him. Ponting had reacted to Virat Kohli‘s form, calling it a concern. He also mentioned that any player with such stats doesn’t deserve to play Test cricket. However, he was hopeful of Kohli returning to form against Australia as he likes batting on pace and bouncy pitches.
Gambhir was urged to respond to Ponting’s comment in the pre-departure press conference. The veteran Indian slammed Ricky, telling him to concentrate on Australian cricket and not India. His choice of words didn’t impress former Australia players. Tim Paine, Ponting, Brad Haddin and Michael Vaughan have lambasted him. And now Nasser Hussain has roasted the head coach.
“Dravid was calm from outside but tough from inside. On the other hand, Gambhir is angry on the outside and calm in the dressing room. It is a complete flip. Gambhir was wrong to target Ponting. He was asked to comment on Virat and now Gambhir has told him to speak only on Australian cricket.
“That will be a tough for a cricket expert in the India-Australia Test series,” Nasser Hussain said.
