Team India future planning during Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Indian cricket team's chief selector Ajit Agarkar is in Australia and has been asked to stay there for the entire tour. Recently, after the crushing defeat in the home Test series against New Zealand, the team is being ridiculed. It hasn't been long since head coach Gautam Gambhir came to power and it seems that it will take him a year and a half to prepare a strong team. In the coming times, India can be seen fielding certain players in every format. Gambhir plans to set up a new team from scratch.
You will have to tell your plan to seniors
According to the report of Times of India, the selectors and coaches want to know from the senior players about their future plans regarding their career. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin are aged 35 or older. Of these, Ashwin has been playing Test cricket continuously for many years. Now these players will have to tell how they are seeing their career going forward.
India will not have much time for the Champions Trophy and they will want to retain their core in this. However, after this they are planning to make big changes in the team which especially includes the T20 format.
Gambhir wants to play T20 format with specialists
One of Gambhir's biggest thoughts is that he wants to see only specialist players in the T20 format. In recent times, India has played most of the T20s against weaker countries or against teams that have rested their key players. In such a situation, India has also given opportunity to the youth by giving rest to the players playing all formats.
India has some players who have cemented their place in T20, but are not able to play in other formats. Gambhir's plan is that now except 34 all-format players in T-0, all the other players should be young and should be specialists in this format only.
