Virat Kohli is training hard in the nets to return to form in the five-Test series against Australia. In the last few years, in the longest format of the game, he has been a walking wicket and scored just 93 runs in six innings against New Zealand.
Despite rain in Perth, Kohli didn’t leave the nets and continued batting after other players had taken shelter.
The visitors have been training at the WACA since last Wednesday. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill were injured in the intra-squad match, with the latter ruled out of the series opener. Captain Rohit Sharma is also out of the contest as his wife gave birth to a second child, a baby boy.
Rahul has recovered from an elbow injury and will be part of the XI. He impressed the management with his form in the training session.
Meanwhile, Virat is under pressure to deliver and silence his critics, who have been demanding his removal from the Test team.
He is not leaving any stone unturned to make his last Australia tour a memorable one. Even as rain forced the players to take cover, the former captain remained in the nets and had a lengthy session. He is making use of every minute of practice before the first contest starts on November 22.
His approach has sent a strong message about his readiness for the tough matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024.
The legendary batter needs one ton to go past Sachin Tendulkar on the list of the Indian batters with the most Test centuries Down Under. Kohli and Sachin lead the list with six hundreds each. The record for most Test hundreds by a visiting batter is with England’s Jack Hobbs, who smashed nine three-digit scores in 24 matches.
