Sanjay Manjrekar said that the Punjab Kings will try to reacquire Arshdeep Singh in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He mentioned that the left-arm seamer is not the same bowler he was five years ago.
In 14 innings, he took 19 wickets and was PKBS’s second-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2024. He is also India’s highest wicket-taking fast bowler in T20Is. However, Arshdeep was not retained by the Punjab-based team, and the management decided to invest in two uncapped players, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh.
“Punjab Kings wanted some freedom and Arshdeep Singh didn’t do anything wrong. He can still impact the game with the new ball and in the death overs. He is not quite the same bowler he was five years ago when he was hoggging the limelight, but still Punjab Kings would be keen to have him,” Sanjay Mnajrekar said on Star Sports.
Manjrekar opined that Mohammed Shami might not be expensive. “Shami is a big match player and a great bowler, but his price tag will come down a bit because of his injuries. He was out of action for a long time, and the franchises would be wary despite Shami’s ability,’ he added.
Gujarat Titans did not retain Shami despite him winning the Purple Cap in IPL 2023. He missed the previous season due to an ankle injury.
