Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan said that wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant will break Australia pacer Mitchell Starc’s record of the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. Kolkata Knight Riders bought Starc for INR 24.75 Crore during the IPL 2024 mini-auction.
Pat Cummins, who cost INR 20.50 crore, was the second most expensive player. He was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Pathan feels Pant could become the most expensive player in the upcoming auction.
“Mitchell Starc’s auction record is in danger. @RishabhPant17 is ready to break it!,” wrote Pathan on his X account.
Pant was released by Delhi Capitals (DC) after eight years. The southpaw made his IPL debut in 2016 for DC and was named the Emerging Player of the Year in 2018, having amassed 684 runs from 14 games at an average of 52.61 and a strike rate of 173.60, including a hundred-and-five half-centuries. In his IPL career, Pant has recorded 3284 runs, with the help of one century and 18 half-centuries.
The governing council of the Indian Premier League has finalized 574 players for the IPL auction. Shreyas Iyer, Jos Buttler, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, KL Rahul, Jos Buttler, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Starc and others will go under the hammer.
Ten franchises will fill 204 spots on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah.
