Mitchell Marsh and his wife Greta Mack were blessed with a baby girl on Sunday night. The batting all-rounder returned to training ahead of the first Test between Australia and India in Perth.
Meanwhile, India are likely to be without their regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who is in India as his wife Ritika Sajdeh gave birth to their second child (boy).
Australia will not face a similar call. They are already missing the services of Cameron Green, who is out of the home summer due to his back surgery.
Marsh bowled a lengthy spell to middle-order batters Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne.
Marsh did not bowl in the Sheffield Shield matches for Western Australia in October, but he is ready to Test the Indian batters in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024.
“He will have to bowl as he is our all-rounder,” Nathan Lyon said on Monday.
Since injuring his hamstring in the Indian Premier League 2024, Marsh has bowled just 24 deliveries in competitive cricket.
He played as a specialist batter during the ICC T20 World Cup 2924 in the West Indies and the United States of America.
He hasn’t bowled much since Green’s addition to the Test squad. However, he can be useful on seaming pitches.
