Though the Indian batter has got quite a good record against Australia in Test cricket, this time he won't just be fighting for form but also to keep his spot in India's Test squad amid a massive possibility of transition following the conclusion of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
Australia batter David Warner, who announced his retirement from international cricket recently, warned the Baggy Greens about Kohli ahead of the all-important 5-match Test series that is set to begin from November 22.
'This is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and we know Virat always steps up in Australia and completely embraces that challenge like almost no one else who has ever visited our shores. There is no better way for him to come out and shut the critics up. I'm genuinely worried for the Australian cricket team that he's going to come out and pile on some runs,' Warner wrote in his column for Herald Sun.
This year has so far been quite disappointing for Kohli when it comes to international cricket as a whole. The star batter has only managed to score a total of 488 runs in 19 matches at a severely low average of 20.33. Kohli has only been able to score 2 half-centuries in 25 innings with a highest score of 76.
The upcoming Australia Tests can be a major turning point in Kohli's Test career as he looks to improve his dismal record of scoring just 1838 runs from 34 Tests at an average of 31.68, comprising of 2 centuries and 9 fifties since the year 2020.
