Babar Azam hasn’t been at his best in the last few years. Once Pakistan’s best batter, he is now struggling to cement his place in the team. He was dropped for the second and third Tests against England, and this trend could follow him in white-ball cricket as well.
In the three ODIs against Australia, he scored 37, 15, and 28. He has amassed six runs in the two T20I against the Men in Yellow.
Babar’s form has become a major talking point in Pakistan Cricket ahead of the Men in Green’s all-format tour of South Africa. Babar has been rested from the tour of Zimbabwe.
After failing in the first two matches against Australia, Babar would like to return to form in the third and final T20I. The right-handed batter has a good track record for Pakistan in the shortest format of the game.
In 125 matches, he has scored 4151 at an average of 40, including three hundreds. In the final game, Azam has a chance to enter the record books and go past Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the elite list.
Babar needs 81 runs to become the highest run scorer in the T20Is. Rohit Sharma, who has retired from the format, currently holds the record, having amassed 4231 runs.
Virat Kohli is second with 4188 runs. He has also bid farewell to this version of the game. Jos Buttler is fourth on the list, having accumulated 3389 runs. The third T20I will be played on November 18 in Hobart.
