Delhi: The first test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia will start from November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth. However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma will not take part in this match, as he is out of the team due to the birth of his second child. In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah has been given the command of the team.

Rahul-Jaiswal will open

In place of Rohit, KL Rahul will open with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Rahul, who was recently ruled out due to an elbow injury during the intra-squad match at the WACA ground, is now fully fit. He batted in the nets for 3 hours on Sunday and declared himself ready for the first test.

Padikkal ready as backup batsman

The team management has retained Devdutt Padikkal with the team as a backup opener. Padikkal has recently performed well for India A team in the matches played in Australia.

Gambhir and physio confirm

Head coach Gautam Gambhir had already hinted at playing Rahul in the opening. Indian physios Kamlesh Jain and Yogesh Parmar said that Rahul's injury was not serious and he is completely fit to play.

The first Test of the series will start in Perth from 22 November, while the second Test will be played in Adelaide from 6 December. Rohit Sharma will join the team from the second test.
